    Andreessen Horowitz Overview

Andreessen Horowitz (also known as a16z with legal name AH Capital Management, LLC) is a private venture capital firm founded in 2009 in Silicon Valley by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.

The firm’s headquarters is located in Menlo Park, California.

Andreessen Horowitz invests in a wide range of stages and industries. They support seed to venture to late-stage tech firms across healthcare, cryptocurrency, fintech, gaming, consumer, education, and enterprise IT.

The general partners of the firm are former founders, CEOs or CTOs of successful technology firms, and have expertise in biology, crypto, security, and financial services, which explains the diversity of their portfolio companies.

Andreessen Horowitz Interview Process & Questions

Interview processes may vary depending on the firm and with each candidate.

However, there are a few consistencies to the nature of the process when you apply at Andreessen Horowitz (or a firm like it):

    • The interview process takes around 4-6 rounds
    • Junior investment professionals are the ones in charge of the initial rounds while the more tenured staffs conduct the later rounds
    • Be patient as the whole interview process can take up to several weeks (except if it’s “on-cycle” or “on-campus” recruitment)

Make sure to prepare for fit questions, behavioral questions, and technical/investing questions when you interview at Andreessen Horowitz.

    Why Andreessen Horowitz

Candidates looking to land a role at Andreessen Horowitz almost always get the question, “Why this firm?”

If you’ve participated in networking events, or you personally reached out and made connections with employees at the firm, this is a good time to mention them and how they’ve made a really positive impression on you.

One of the best ways to learn about a firm and to prepare for this interview question is to listen to the firm’s investors in their own words. For this, I highly recommend listening to interviews of people who work there.  This will help you figure out how the firm talks about itself in its own words.

    Andreessen Horowitz Case Study

One of the most common exercises interviewers like to include during interviews is case study.

Case studies help firms like Andreessen Horowitz to evaluate their candidates’ technical knowledge and communication skills – which are both crucial for succeeding in the finance world.

Most case studies revolve around financial modeling and investment recommendations. Cold calling case study may also be required for junior role applications.
