Why British Patient Capital: Interviews, Careers, & Portfolio

Find out what makes British Patient Capital a good place for building your investing career

British Patient Capital Overview

British Patient Capital started in June 2018 after the UK government’s Patient Capital Review.

The Review showed that while the UK is great for innovation, many companies struggle to get long-term finance, which stops them from growing to their full potential.

To address this, the British Business Bank, a government-owned development bank, created British Patient Capital as a commercial subsidiary.

Since then, British Patient Capital has become the UK’s largest domestic investor in venture and growth opportunities.

They invest commercially to achieve competitive returns and manage risk, focusing on the late-stage funding gap.

They invest in sectors like:

  • Consumer Goods & Services
  • Engineering
  • Financial and Insurance Services
  • Health & Social Care
  • And many more

British Patient Capital is based in Sheffield, England.

Why British Patient Capital

“Why this firm” is one of the most common and most important interview questions

If you’ve done networking, this is a great time to mention whoever you’ve met at the firm and how they’ve made a really positive impression on you

One of the best ways to learn about a firm is to listen to interviews with its founders or investors.

Interviewees almost always face a case study during interviews. Case studies help firms assess your technical knowledge and ability to communicate.

Most case studies at firms like British Patient Capital focus on financial modeling and investment recommendations. However, junior roles also often require a cold calling case study as well.
