H.I.G. Capital is a Miami-based private equity and alternative assets investment firm.

The firm operates a group of private equity, growth equity, primary lending, credit, and real estate funds.

Sami Mnaymneh who used to be a managing director at The Blackstone Group and Tony Tamer, a former partner at Bain & Company, founded H.I.G. Capital in 1993.

Aside from their headquarters in Miami, Florida, H.I.G. Capital also has offices in NY City, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Atlanta with affiliate offices across the world.

Since its founding, H.I.G. Capital has raised several funds such as the:

  • H.I.G. BioVentures II (2012) – $268 million funds for pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostics.
  • H.I.G. Middle Market Fund II (2014) — $1.75 billion fund focused on LBO of middle market companies
  • H.I.G. Realty Partners III (2017) – $593 million fund for small to mid capital properties in the US.

H.I.G. Capital operates as a private equity firm and has no recent announcements regarding going public.

Firms often change their interview process with each candidate, but if you apply at H.I.G. Capital (or any similar firm), you can find similarities in their interview process which more or less remain consistent:

  • The interview consists of 4-6 rounds
  • Junior investment professionals take charge of the initial rounds while the more senior staff handle the latter rounds

Notable Transaction: Lionbridge Technologies

In 2017, H.I.G. Capital acquired Lionbridge Technologies – a leading provider of content localization, digital communications, and testing solutions to enterprises – for $360 million.

Lionbridge shareholders received $5.75 for each share of Lionbridge common stock as per their terms of agreement.

The deal was structured as a merger agreement, with Lionbridge turning into a privately held company under H.I.G. Capital.

This acquisition helped Lionbridge to expand its presence worldwide and support their growth initiatives.
