Alpine Investors is seeking an Associate to work closely with the VP, Portfolio Operations (Paul Disse) and in partnership with Alpine portfolio company CFOs to establish best in class finance and accounting functions.

The vision of Portfolio Operations at Alpine is to champion the goals of our portfolio companies and support them through hiring A-players, advisory, best practices, strategic initiatives, and tactical support. The primary goal of this position is to contribute to the improvement of finance functions and assist in the development of high-performing finance teams. As Alpine’s deal volume grows (Alpine acquired 5 platforms and 160+ add-on investments in 2023), the importance of best in class finance functions is paramount.

The role will involve working with multiple companies at different stages of financial maturity and will execute the different Portfolio Operations Playbooks like: Financial Stand-up, Financial Operations Assessment, Tech Stack Upgrades, and other strategic projects. By leveraging an accounting, consulting and/or private equity skillset, this role will analyze finance and accounting functions and develop a transformation roadmap spanning process improvements, system enhancement, organization design (people), reporting, and more.

The ideal candidate has worked with companies at different stages in the life cycle. They understand how to build a best-in-class finance function from a people, process, and systems perspective. This “player-coach” can provide strategic advice to management teams and take ownership of executing transformational projects through hands-on support and oversight of third-party service providers. The candidate understands what it takes to design, implement and integrate financial reporting systems and bring companies up to audit standards (e.g., moving from cash to GAAP). The candidate speaks fluidly to implementing change in organizations. Examples of this could be improving a financial process like time to close; cash to GAAP conversions; implementing systems; building 13-week cash flow models and improving financials insights by using technology.

  • Proven track record (4+ years) of success in finance and accounting consulting, and/or private equity
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Proven experience developing processes for improved efficiency and accuracy
  • Problem solving mindset with the ability to work across simultaneous workstreams and tight timelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with C-level executives
  • Experience with change management and strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Familiarity with different accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Workday) preferred
  • M&A and/or financial standup experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA or CPA is a plus
  • Alignment with Alpine’s core values

  • 3+ days in office per week; the role can be based in either our New York or San Francisco office
  • Occasional domestic travel to both Portfolio Companies and Alpine’s offices

  • Competitive compensation and bonus
  • Full medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • Company holidays & Quiet Fridays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Monthly lunches and weekly breakfasts
  • PeopleFirst Culture
  • Events and activities both team-based and company-wide that inspire, educate, and cultivate
