Position Overview
The Analyst in the commercial Real Estate Credit group will learn about Apollo’s approach to investing through the lens of our Real Estate platform. Through immersive guidance from our firm’s leaders, you’ll learn about our approach to investment opportunities in global commercial, and residential real estate, benefiting from Apollo’s experience investing in real estate-related sectors. Apollo’s Real Estate Credit team has deployed over $78 billion of capital globally since 2009, providing fixed and floating rate first mortgage and subordinate financing including mezzanine and preferred equity investments on behalf of multiple investment vehicles including a public mortgage REIT, insurance companies, and managed funds. The team finances a broad spectrum of property types throughout the US and Europe, including pre-construction, construction, bridge, and stabilized loans for single assets and portfolios.
The European Real Estate Credit platform has deployed $19 billion of capital since inception in 2013, over $10 billion of which since the start of 2021, and currently manages in excess of $11 billion of loans. The team has ambitions to more than double the size of its loan book in the next five years, with a particular focus on deploying capital on behalf of Apollo’s related insurance company balance sheets.
Apollo’s broader real estate investment group includes an equity investment effort based in New York and London which is separately staffed, but fully integrated with, the credit investment effort to ensure that Apollo maintains superior market intelligence in the real estate market. The Analyst will have significant opportunities for personal growth and to be impactful to a small, highly entrepreneurial team that manages a large and growing commercial real estate portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities
- Drive analytical and project support for investment activities; construct financial models, sensitivity analyses, comparable analyses, and other financial and asset due diligence and industry research
- Leading due diligence and execution of transactions
- Liaise with external partners and due diligence advisors such as sponsors, brokers, attorneys, investors, and third-party consultants during deal transaction
- Assisting with legal negotiations and due diligence
- Work with asset management team to monitor and rate existing investments on an on-going basis
- Assist with creating memoranda for internal and external us
- Assist in the day-to-day tasks of the group including the creation of presentations, excel spreadsheets, databases, etc. on an ad hoc basis
Qualifications & Experience
- 1+ years’ experience in investment banking, real estate, private equity, principal investing, and/or advisory/brokering
- Bachelor’s degree from a top university, preferably in Finance, Economics, or a related field
- Strong written/verbal communication skills to communicate with various internal & external counterparties
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Excel modelling, and presentational skills (PowerPoint and others)
- Ability to meaningfully contribute to strategic dialogue and collaborate effectively with investment teams and external advisory resources
- Demonstrates strong investment judgment through ability to identify potential risks and find solutions to roadblocks throughout all stages of a deal
- Excellent attention to detail; excels in a rigorous and fast-paced team-oriented work environment
