Ares Management is looking for an AVP, Counsel to join their Investment Legal team in Los Angeles. This role focuses on supporting their Opportunistic Credit, Private Equity, and U.S. Liquid Credit strategies. You’ll work closely with investment professionals, advising on legal matters and overseeing deal documentation. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong legal background in finance who enjoys a collaborative work environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Advise on legal matters related to new and existing investments.
  • Oversee deal documentation for debt and equity investments.
  • Assist with workouts and restructurings.
  • Support regulatory filings and compliance matters.
  • Review and negotiate various legal agreements.
  • Supervise paralegals and legal coordinators.
  • Help improve team processes and standard forms.

What You Need

  • J.D. with a strong academic background.
  • California Bar membership or ability to qualify as in-house counsel.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience in debt and preferred equity investments.
  • Experience with restructurings, securitizations, or M&A is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Team player with a willingness to mentor junior members.
  • High attention to detail and strong integrity.
