Position Summary

The firm is seeking a Senior Associate for its Valuation team based in New York City. The core focus of this group is to analyze, evaluate, prepare, and summarize valuation results for the firm’s portfolio investments:

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed valuation models, review valuation checklists, write valuation memorandums, and generate valuation reports for the firm’s quarterly valuation process
  • Perform financial statement analyses and other quantitative and qualitative assessments on portfolio companies; review and synthesize financial data provided by deal teams and Portfolio Management team
  • Identify relevant comparable public companies and M&A transactions within specific industries based upon information services such as S&P Capital IQ
  • Construct and review valuation and other financial analyses including market multiples, market transactions, and discounted cash flow analyses
  • Research and collect information on industry-specific conditions and trends, mergers and acquisitions within specific industries, and various valuation metrics of publicly traded companies
  • Work closely with Portfolio Management team to ensure timely and accurate collection of portfolio company data from deal teams; assist with Onboarding of new investments and tracking of key metrics
  • Work with Finance team to ensure equity allocation models are run appropriately and valuation results are accurately reflected in investor capital accounts
  • Generate reports and presentations to disseminate valuation results to various internal committees, external auditors, and limited partners
  • Prepare and provide any ad-hoc reports that may be requested by firm’s leadership from time to time

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or similar discipline (CFA and/or CPA a plus)
  • 6-8 years of private investment valuation experience in “Big 4” transaction services, a private equity fund, hedge fund, or third-party valuation services provider
  • Fundamental understanding of financial valuation theory and its applications including experience developing valuation models using wide range of valuation methodologies such as Discounted Cash Flows, Market Multiples, Market Transactions, and Benchmark Transactions
  • Understanding of equity allocation in a complex capital structure; familiarity with Option Pricing Method and Waterfall analysis
  • Exceptional MS Excel and PowerPoint skills. Ability to work with large/complex volumes of data using advanced Excel functions (index/match, SUMIFS) to generate insightful reports for internal and external presentation
  • Ability to perform effectively and deliver high quality results under tight deadlines
  • Quick thinking individual who is skilled in making swift and effective decisions and determining the best next steps in real-time
  • Experience in performing and reviewing valuations in accordance with FASB ASC 820 and AICPA Accounting and Valuation Guide
  • Proficiency in Capital IQ; experience with iLevel a plus
  • A self-motivated individual with strong work ethic and attention to detail; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire and ability to share knowledge and complete team tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; confidence presenting to large groups of senior individuals
