Managing Director, Legal

Ares Management is looking for a Managing Director, Legal, to join their Tokyo office. This role requires a seasoned lawyer with extensive experience in Japanese financial regulations and cross-border transactions. You will manage a small team and work closely with investment teams to navigate legal complexities in a dynamic environment.

What You’ll Do

• Advise on Japanese regulatory matters and licensing requirements.
• Manage a team of legal professionals in the Tokyo office.
• Work with investment teams to structure and negotiate transactions.
• Support due diligence and regulatory assessments for investments.
• Maintain relationships with external counsel and regulators.
• Provide ongoing legal support for existing investments.

What You Need

• Qualified lawyer with around 17 years of experience in Japan or related regulatory experience.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese financial regulations and investment laws.
• Experience in real estate, credit, and private equity transactions.
• Ability to work in a global business environment with excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated and solutions-oriented.
• Fluency in Japanese and English.
