Position Summary:

At MS&AD Ventures, we are looking for Analysts and Associates who are entrepreneurial and are integrated into the entrepreneurship & venture capital ecosystem. You will be working closely with senior team members on both investment and business development activities. The role provides the opportunity to work on the entire lifecycle of investment and support, and to take ownership based on demonstrated capabilities. We expect Analysts and Associates to have very strong analysis skills, supporting and leading quantitative and qualitative diligence processes and providing support for our existing and growing portfolio. We are looking for action-orientated and hard-working individuals who have an ownership mentality and the ability to drive value for MS&AD Group.

Qualifications

• The team members we are hiring will be a critical part of a small team so having a proactive entrepreneurial mindset is important
• Applicants must have experience in one or more of the following: venture capital, business development, product management, and start-up work experience
• Analysts: 1-2 years of experience
• Associates: 3-4 years of experience
• A technical and engineering background as well as expertise in finance are very helpful in this role
• Applicants must have demonstrated academic and professional excellence and possess strong critical thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a passion for technology and entrepreneurship
• Individuals must have strong oral and written communication skills
• Applicants need to have a team-first mentality and a highly collaborative style with the ability to work effectively across multiple key stakeholder groups across several different countries
• A successful team member is highly accountable for their work and has an ownership mentality in all of their projects while also having a highly collaborative style and the ability to work effectively across multiple key stakeholder groups globally
• The ability to speak Japanese is a plus, but is not required

Responsibilities

• Analyze new businesses and be competent to provide the first level of screening of new investment and business development opportunities; provide solid analysis that helps the team to make quick and reliable decisions
• Complete detailed and accurate due diligence, both quantitative and qualitative, and evaluate all aspects of partnership and investment opportunities and collaborate effectively with the larger team to execute the full due diligence process
• Create quality investment memos, and business development materials in a timely manner
• Master insurance concepts and become a subject matter expert in at least one to two areas, enabling the strong ability to filter companies for best fits and to support both portfolio companies and business units
• Build quality relationships with startups; network to source potential investments, partnership opportunities and customers for our portfolio companies, including key people to hire, recruiters and other services as needed
• Support (and develop the ability to lead) business development activities to identify and evaluate partnerships with technology start-ups, analyzing the strategic fit and potential, and helping to drive value for MS&AD Group
• Research markets and have the ability to build theses around investment and business development focus areas
• Build trust with CEOs and senior executives at portfolio companies and be capable of truly adding value to their companies
• Manage deal flow and provide detailed explanations on unique aspects of startups we are considering for investment and/or partnership
• Build the capability to negotiate contracts and close BD contracts with limited support
• Assist with financial reporting and planning
• Represent MS&AD Ventures with strong professionalism, engaging all stakeholders within the entrepreneurial, venture, and corporate partner ecosystem
