Chief of Staff

Village Global

San Francisco, CA, USA
Posted on September 30, 2024

Village Global is a network-native VC firm with ~$500 million AUM, chaired by Reid Hoffman and backed by industry luminaries including Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg. We lead pre-seed and seed rounds to back remarkable founders across categories.

At Village HQ, we’re a small team of high performers — entrepreneurs, operators, authors, community builders. We work hard because we’re passionate about pursuing our mission of increasing entrepreneurship around the world. We also have a ton of fun.

We’re at an exciting point in our journey, with hundreds of millions of dollars under management, plenty of dry powder to deploy, dozens of breakout portfolio companies, and high founder NPS. The next chapter of Village Global will be epic.

Here, you’ll be working in a culture that prizes personal and professional growth. You’ll have a front row seat to learn from Village Global’s co-founder and from some of the most exceptional founders and iconic CEOs in the world. You’ll build your network. And we’ll partner with you so you can develop the skills that will help you realize your highest potential in whatever you want to do next.

?Chief of Staff

This role provides a front-row seat to the ins and outs of venture investing. This can be a rewarding, fascinating way to break into VC or the startup ecosystem.

The Chief of Staff will engage in all functions of venture capital including working with our portfolio companies, vetting inbound opportunities, conducting diligence, and growing our network. The role is behind the scenes and not always glamorous but you will get a ton of exposure to every part of the venture industry.

We seek a team member with hustle, passion for tech startups, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication talents. The ideal candidate is high-initiative, conscientious, and eager to continuously learn.

We expect this to be a 2-year position that provides exposure to all elements of startups and the venture capital ecosystem.

This role will work primarily with Anne Dwane, Co-founder & General Partner, who was named one of the top seed investors in Silicon Valley and who has led a 20+ year career as a founder, venture-backed CEO and investor.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and track new investment opportunities. This is NOT an investing role, but you will be involved in helping us stay organized during investment processes
  • Conduct due diligence including market research, product testing, competitive analyses, and reference checks
  • Anticipate, prepare, and organize materials necessary for upcoming meetings
  • Drive follow-ups after meetings
  • Leverage data to identify remarkable founders, angel investors, and emerging VC fund managers
  • Test and integrate new technologies to inform investments and improve productivity
  • Communicate effectively with founders, angel investors, and VCs throughout investment processes
  • Manage a wide variety of ad hoc projects
    ?

Preferred Qualifications

  • Remarkable work ethic. We value work-life balance, but this is not a 9-5 role
  • Extremely well-organized – comfortable juggling multiple projects without ever dropping the ball
  • Conscientious and detail-oriented
  • Low ego – treats administrative tasks with the same attitude as high-status deal-related work
  • Strong communicator – clear and concise in oral and written communications. (Show us!)
  • Passion for founders, the startup ecosystem, and emerging technologies
  • The position can be IRL in San Francisco or virtual
  • Experience in startups, VC, investment banking, private equity, or consulting is a plus
    ?

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: based on experience and potential
  • Fully covered medical, dental and vision benefits
  • 401k matching
  • Flexible time off
  • Fantastic and unique Village Global culture
    ?

This role is likely not a fit if:

  • You can’t see yourself becoming obsessed with early stage startups
  • You seek a relaxed role after an intense run as a founder
  • You want to invest in startups yourself instead of being an operationally-focused Chief of Staff
  • You’re looking for lots of direct oversight instead of being empowered to self-start and run
