It’s normal for firms to make changes in their interview process as they see fit for each candidate. However, if you interview at OpenView Venture Capital (or a firm like it), you can expect the following:
- More or less five rounds of interviews
- For the first few rounds, junior investment professionals or the HR team will be the interviewers, and the more senior staff takes over at the later rounds
- Interviewers will ask you a combination of technical / investing questions, behavioral questions, and fit questions
The whole process can last multiple weeks – except if it’s on-campus or on-cycle recruiting.

“Why this firm” is one of the questions you should definitely prepare for as it almost always shows up during interviews.
To avoid generic answers, you can mention the professionals at the firm whom you’ve connected with during your networking efforts and share how their experiences at the firm inspired you to be part of their team.
It’s also a good practice to research the firm before attending interviews. To do this, you can try listening to interviews with its founders, investors, and key individuals.

OpenView Venture Capital Case Study
Firms often evaluate each candidate’s level of technical expertise and communication skills. Case studies are one of the tools they use during interviews to assess these critical traits.
Most case studies at firms like OpenView Venture Capital will require you to present investment recommendations and perform financial modeling. But if you’re applying for a junior role, it’s best to prepare for a cold calling case study as well.
