    Quona Capital Overview

Quona Capital is a global venture capital firm which invests in fintech companies in emerging markets.

The firm primarily supports startups who give access to financial services to growing businesses and consumers in Latin America, Middle East, Africa, India, and Southeast Asia.

Their focus is on markets which are underserved by the finance infrastructure where they see a huge potential for transformation.

Jonathan Whittle, Monica Brand Engel, Miguel Herrera, and Ganesh Rengaswamy founded Quona Capital in 2015. The firm is currently based in Washington, DC.

Quona Capital Interview Process & Questions

The interview process is not exactly the same for each candidate.

However, if you get a chance to interview at Quona Capital (or a similar firm), you will most likely go through a series of interviews – usually around 4 to 6 rounds.

For the first few rounds, the junior investment professionals or the HR team will be in charge, until the more senior staff takes over in the later rounds.

Prepare to answer a combination of fit, behavioral, and technical / investing questions. Also, expect the whole interview process to finish after several weeks, unless it’s “on-campus” or “on-cycle” recruiting.

You can check out my Growth Equity Interview Guide if you need preparation materials for interviews.

    Why Quona Capital

One of the most common interview questions is “Why this firm?” Generic answers to this question won’t make you stand out during interviews.

To provide a more tailored answer, mention the people working at the firm whom you’ve met during your networking and share how their positive experience at the firm inspired you to apply as well.

Also, try to research the firm beforehand. You can listen to interviews with its founders, investors, and leaders.

For example, here’s an interview with Jonathan Whittle, Quona Capital Co-Founder and Managing Partner:

    Quona Capital Case Study

Investment firms usually include case studies in their interview process. That’s because they use this exercise to measure the level of communication skills and technical knowledge of each applicant.

At firms like Quona Capital, case studies often involve performing financial modeling and asking for investment recommendations. But if you’re applying for a junior role, a cold calling case study may be included in the process as well.
