    Ridge Ventures Overview

Ridge Ventures (formerly IDG Ventures USA) is an early stage venture capital firm which invests in experienced founders who are involved in the tech and software space.

The firm typically supports companies that deliver new distribution models, advanced tech, and great user experience. But even though Ridge Ventures is focused on SaaS and infrastructure solutions, they also help startups in gaming, ecommerce, and adtech.

Ridge Ventures primarily participates in Seed and early Series A funding rounds and writes checks between $2M and $7M.

Alexander Rosen, Phil Sanderson, and Pat Kenealy founded Ridge Ventures in 2007. The firm is based in San Francisco, California.

Ridge Ventures Interview Process & Questions

Even though firms tend to change their interview process as they see fit for each candidate, you can likely expect the following scenarios when you interview at Ridge Ventures:

    • Approximately 4 to 6 rounds of interview
    • Interviewing with the HR team or junior investment professionals during the first rounds and more senior staff in the later rounds
    • Entire interview process often lasts multiple weeks – unless it’s “on-campus” or “on-cycle” recruiting

The interview will consist of behavioral questions, fit questions, and technical / investing questions.

    Why Ridge Ventures

One of the questions you’ll most likely have to answer during your interviews is “Why this firm?”

To avoid generic answers to this question, you can mention professionals at the firm whom you’ve met during networking events and share how their positive experience at the firm motivated you to apply.

You can also listen to interviews with the firm’s founders, investors, and management team to get insights on how the firm operates.

For example, here’s an interview with Yousuf Khan, General Partner at Ridge Ventures:

    Ridge Ventures Case Study

Case studies almost always show up during interviews. That’s because firms use case studies to evaluate the communication skills and technical expertise of their candidates.

Most case studies involve investment recommendations and financial modeling. But a cold calling case study may also be required for those applying for junior roles.

    Notable Transaction: Clazar

Clazar is a company which enables software businesses to sell and grow their revenue through cloud marketplaces like Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and AWS.

With Clazar, businesses can set up and gain revenue via marketplaces in just a matter of weeks. They can also manage their cloud channel in one place and run Co-Sell directly from HubSpot and Salesforce – without rev sharing or cap on revenue.

In April 2024, Clazar raised $10 million from a Series A funding round.

Ridge Ventures and Ensemble VC led the funding round, alongside Saurabh Gupta and existing investors.

Clazar plans to use the investment for R&D and product innovation.
