Ascension Investment Management Interview Process & Questions

Firms are likely to change their interview process as they see fit for each candidate. However, when you interview at Ascension Investment Management (or similar firms), you can expect the following setup:

  • Interview will consist of 4 to 6 rounds
  • For initial rounds, you’ll meet with the HR team or junior investment professionals. For the later rounds, more senior staff will supervise the interview.
  • Expect the whole process to take a few weeks (unless it’s “on-campus” or “on-cycle” recruiting)

The interview questions at Ascension Investment Management will be a mixture of technical questions, behavioral questions, and fit questions.

To prepare for interviews, I’d suggest checking out our self-paced online course Growth Equity Interview Guide.

Why Ascension Investment Management

One interview question you should definitely prepare for is “Why this firm?”

It’s one of the important questions because it will show whether you really want to be part of their firm, specifically, or you just want to land a job at any firm that’s hiring.

If you did some networking prior to interviews, this is the best time to mention these professionals and how their experiences and growth at the firm positively influenced your decision to send your application.

Another good practice is learning about the firm.

For this, I’d recommend listening to interviews with its founders, investors, partners, or anyone connected to the firm.

To get you started, here’s an interview with David Erickson, Chief Investment Officer of Ascension Investment Management:

Ascension Investment Management Case Study

Case studies almost always show up during interviews. That’s because firms use case studies to evaluate each candidate’s level of technical knowledge and communication skills – which are both important in the investing field.

Most case studies at firms like Ascension Investment Management will have their candidates recommend investments and perform financial modeling. But a cold calling case study may be required as well for junior roles.

In case you’re interested, I teach case studies in great detail inside my Growth Equity Interview Guide.
