The Role

The Early Stage Venture team at a16z supports founders on their company building journey. As the Program Manager on this team, you will help design products and services to support our portfolio founders and leadership teams as they build their companies. The most critical product offering is a series of events for portfolio leadership to learn and share best practices around company building, including topics such as hiring, coaching high performance teams, launching, building repeatable go-to-market motions, and more.

Company Building Event Production

  • Help design, plan, and execute a variety of online and offline events design to help startup founders build companies
  • Design a set of standard templates and processes for various standard event types
  • Manage event budgets, timelines, and logistics
  • Produce artifacts for the entire event lifecycle: invitations, landing pages, emails to get approval/buy-in, handouts, surveys, badges, seat tents, etc. for events
  • Handle guest invitations, RSVPs, and event registrations working with internal teams and systems such as Salesforce, Marketo, and Looker
  • Make sure the right follow-up materials are shared with recipients and, where appropriate, published to an internal library for founders
  • Manage post-event activities, such as surveys, feedback analysis, and reporting
  • Continuously improve event processes and incorporate feedback to enhance the attendee experience

Founder Products (Systems & Processes)

  • Design and improve systems and processes to support our product offerings
  • Work on the processes and back end administration for our other founder-facing products, including the Library chatbot, Marketplace, Slack community, and Founder newsletter
  • Log founder input and what they want next from our product & services

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including events, marketing operations, and others to produce events aligned with our team’s goals and reflecting our firm values
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure clear project expectations and timelines
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Plan and execute events. You’ll ensure that our virtual and in-person events run smoothly and that all event attendees have been communicated any relevant event details. You will also help with event logistics including any necessary setup, breakdown, etc.
  • Interact with startup founders. You should enjoy interacting with startup founders and leaders as the face of the a16z at events, both online and in real life
  • Maintain and improve systems. We primarily use Google Workspace, Salesforce, Looker, and Zoom to manage our events. You’ll help make sure our systems are up to date with the latest data. You’ll work with the team to pick new systems or  improve our existing systems so we’re making decisions with the best possible data and automating as much as we can
  • Use data to make sure we are inviting the right people at the right time to help them build companies. You’ll help build and use reports that make sure we are inviting founders at just the right time.

Minimum ?Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, including at least 2 years in a startup program management role (examples: accelerators, pre-accelerators, incubators, etc.) or similar role in event management, project management, or office management
  • Experience with startup curriculum development (from working on other startup education programs)
  • Understanding of venture capital and early-stage startups
  • Highly organized and executes all tasks with operational and organizational excellence
  • Extremely proactive and has the ability to foresee potential roadblocks and mitigate them
  • Attention to detail
  • Loves being punctual and encouraging others to do the same
  • Loves organizing and encouraging others to be organized
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment
  • Positive attitude and willingness to jump in and support the broader team when needed
  • Hands on experience using Google Workspace, Salesforce, and Looker
  • Loves learning and continuously improving
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to travel to US based events as needed, mostly in SF and New York City (up to 2 events/month)

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $222,000-$259,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
