Blue Heron is hiring an experienced Analyst / Senior Analyst to join the investment team. The hire will participate in the firm’s diligence and investment process and will work directly with the firm’s entire investment team.

Essential functions include participating in all stages of a growth equity investment:

  • Conducting market research and analysis to develop investment theses
  • Sourcing new investment opportunities and driving deal flow
  • Exercise discretion in screening prospective investment opportunities and forming an independent opinion of the attractiveness of those opportunities
  • Performing business due diligence including financial modeling and return analysis
  • Preparing investment memorandums and presentations for the Investment Committee
  • Participating in portfolio monitoring, management, and reporting responsibilities
  • Identifying and monitoring potential portfolio company exit opportunities
  • Support portfolio companies with ad-hoc analyses projects (e.g., financial planning, board deck construction, M&A support, etc.)

Other essential responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and eventually leading the quarterly portfolio company valuation process
  • Supporting the team with quarterly reporting, annual meetings, and LP information requests
  • Conducting ad-hoc tasks related to investment reporting, market research, internal requests, and marketing efforts
  • Organizing and managing industry roundtable panel discussions with BHC’s network of industry specific Operating Advisors
  • Representing Blue Heron at industry and investment conferences

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, math, engineering, information technology, or a related area.
  • 1 – 3 years of finance experience in either investment banking, private equity, growth equity, management consulting, or a related field
  • Strong technical and analytical capabilities including valuation and modeling skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and fact-based approach to analysis with a passion for investing
  • An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and independently to completion
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, positive attitude with good listening skills
  • Strong work ethic, team orientation, and integrity
  • It is expected that this will be a full-time in-person role, reporting to Blue Heron’s Richmond office
