As a member of the office of the CEO, the Strategic Initiatives Intern will support a range of firm strategy. While not an investment role, this position offers visibility into all aspects of General Catalyst, including the investment team, its thematic work, and processes. The intern will report to the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and also work closely with the Chief of Staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Develop research on holistic investment: understanding how public and private sector entities, broader society, the macroeconomic environment, and emerging trends impact our core focus investment areas
  • Build out ecosystem strategies (including partnerships) around artificial intelligence, defense and intelligence, climate, energy, health assurance, and finclusion (modern finance)
  • Create internal firm expertise and processes on how our core focus investment areas vary across our core geographies (United States, Europe and the Middle East, and India)
  • Organize and conduct research on relationship databases for key firm network opportunities
  • Develop internal tools and recommendations related to the implementation of artificial intelligence into all of the firm’s processes
  • Strengthen due diligence processes for investment teams related to responsible innovation
  • Develop additional resources on the value proposition of responsible innovation for internal audiences and the founder community

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Entering final year of study for a Bachelor’s or non-M.B.A. Master’s degree
  • Ability to contribute 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks, in person in New York City, negotiable starting date
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) at or above 3.25/4.00, or equivalent
  • Ability to legally work in the United States
  • Deep passion for artificial intelligence and responsible innovation
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy and coalition building
  • Demonstrated interest in venture capital and/or the startup investment process
  • Driven, self-starter with a passion for excellence and tolerance for ambiguity and change
  • Exceptional strategic, analytical, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fields of Study: Computer Science or other Engineering-related fields, Finance, Economics, or other Business-related fields, Public Policy
  • Strong evidence of knowledge or expertise in the firm’s core investment areas, as demonstrated through written pieces, research, previous work or volunteer experiences, or public statements or activity

This position is in-person at our New York City office, located in SoHo. This team operates with a flexible work arrangement, with on average three days per week in the office. Compensation: The full-time rate for this position is $1,400/week.
