Title: Venture Investor – Sr. Associate/ VP

Location: Columbus, Ohio; or Remote (with frequent travel to Columbus)

Heartland Ventures, a successful venture capital firm with over $75M in assets under management, is looking to expand its Venture Capital investment team to assist in the remaining deployment of its oversubscribed Fund II and upcoming Fund III. The role will be an extension of Heartland’s core thesis – connect transformational technology being developed across the country to Heartland’s unique roster of Midwestern industrial businesses.

Heartland seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented Venture Investor to join our mission-critical investment team. As an integral part of the Ventures team, you’ll work on all aspects of transactions, from sourcing support to deal execution and portfolio value creation. Core Responsibilities

• Deal Sourcing: Work with the team to identify and evaluate new investment opportunities.
• Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investment opportunities, including financial, operational, and legal due diligence.
• Investment Memos and Presentations: Prepare investment memos, presentations, and all other materials required in the investment, fundraising, and fund management processes. Develop investment theses, conduct market research, and present findings to leadership.
• Negotiations: Support financing and transaction negotiations, working with the team to structure deals and liaise with legal counsel and other advisors as necessary.
• Portfolio Management: Support the ongoing monitoring and management of portfolio companies, including analyzing financial performance, identifying value creation opportunities, and monitoring market trends.
• Value Creation: Support value creation initiatives, such as product market fit, strategic growth opportunities, and founder support.
• Co-Investor Relations: Build and maintain a network of peers in the Venture Capital ecosystem.
• Additional Projects: Complete additional projects as requested.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of investment experience at a recognized Venture Capital or Corporate Venture firm
• Undergraduate degree from a top-tier institution and with a superior academic performance record
• Genuine intellectual curiosity about investing, startups and business
• Previous experience or interest in the industrial, supply chain, construction and/or real estate industries preferred
• Deep network of founders and investors in the venture capital industry
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including comfort representing the firm to a variety of senior-level executives
• Motivated self-starter and team player with a high level of maturity and ability to perform in an entrepreneurial atmosphere
• Deeply analytical and thoughtful in analyzing a startups growth potential
• Strong organizational skills, with an ability to multitask in a dynamic and decentralized, small team environment
• Midwestern values, curiosity, and best-call mindset – willing to be agile to devise creative solutions to complex challenges
• Experience managing transaction due diligence and legal documentation
• Highly proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and deal CRM systems

Compensation

The compensation package for this position includes a competitive base salary, performance-based bonus, and equity participation. Heartland Ventures also offers full health benefits, 401k matching, flexibility on remote work, and unlimited PTO.
