Head of Operations

Root Ventures is a $325M Seed VC based in San Francisco. We invest in technical teams at the earliest stages, focusing on founders building products at the frontier of technology and founders building the tools to make it all possible.

As Head of Operations, you will play a critical role at Root: leading fund operations, expanding our community, supporting portfolio companies, and supporting LP relations/fundraising. We’re a team of engineers and tinkerers, so you’ll even be helping us with our constant office improvement projects.

About the job:

• Fund operations: manage third party vendors including outsourced finance, legal, and tax teams.
• Support LP relations and fundraising operations as we raise new funds and SPVs.
• Identify opportunities to expand Root Ventures’ community and brand.
• Organize and manage operations for community events, LP summits, founder offsites, etc.
• Support the growing Root portfolio of roughly 40 companies with occasional recruiting, sales, financing, and ad-hoc projects.

About you:

• Ability to wear many hats: operations, finance, investor relations, community.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Thrives in an unstructured work environment; independent and self-motivated. Someone that defaults to action and finds unexpected opportunities to help.
• Has an attitude of being “above no job, and below no job”.
• Creativity: there’s nothing more tedious than boilerplate corporate events. In the past we have hosted events with bonsai planting, knife forging, model rocketry, and wine tasting. What more can we do to connect with our awesome community?
• Eager and comfortable meeting with founders, LPs, and operators on a daily basis.
• Strong existing ties to the startup community is a plus.

Job qualifications:

• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• At least 3-5 years of work experience in VC, startup operations or finance.
• Based or able to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. We are an in-office team.
