About TPG Rise Climate

Launched in early 2021, TPG Rise Climate pursues investments that benefit from the diverse skills of TPG’s investing professionals, the strategic relationships developed across the firm’s existing climate portfolio, and the global network of executives and advisors across the TPG ecosystem. TPG Founding Partner and Executive Chairman Jim Coulter is Managing Partner of TPG Rise Climate and former U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson serves as TPG Rise Climate’s Executive Chairman.

TPG Rise Climate takes a broad sector approach, ranging from growth equity to value-added infrastructure, and focuses on climate solutions across clean electrons, clean molecules, and negative emissions. This strategy will primarily focus on cutting-edge first of kind deals and technologies.

Evidence-based research and data will drive investment decision making and guide TPG Rise Climate in constructing a portfolio of companies that can enable carbon aversion in a quantifiable way. TPG Rise Climate will utilize Y Analytics’ methodologies, including Carbon Yield – a decision tool that leverages scientific, health, economic, and social science research – to estimate the tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions avoided per dollar invested.

Position Description

TPG has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President to join the TPG Rise Climate investing team in the San Francisco office. This Vice President will participate in all aspects of the investing process, working closely with associates and senior investment professionals to drive diligence and execution of new investments and working closely with senior management at portfolio companies to manage existing investments. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying attractive areas for thematic development and driving early thematic subsector work across the climate investing landscape
  • Leading due diligence efforts for potential investments, including driving third-party diligence workstreams and managing more junior team members through the deal process
  • Structuring, financing and executing transactions
  • Developing & maintaining relationships with portfolio company leadership to support value creation initiatives, M&A, capital raising activities, etc.
  • Supporting the recruiting and training of new TRC associates

Candidate Profile

The Vice President will be an experienced investment professional, with 4+ years of private equity experience. He or she will have meaningful deal experience and will demonstrate an excellent core analytical skill set, strong commercial judgement, ability to communicate effectively, and ability to build relationships with external stakeholders (management, advisors, etc.). The right candidate will also be an intellectually curious team player who demonstrates humility and has a desire to work as part of a collective team to build an exciting platform.

Candidates will likely come from a large cap buyout firm or other high-quality private investment group. Specific attributes for a successful Vice President are outlined below:

  • 6-8+ years total work experience including 4+ years in private equity; at least 1 year at VP level is preferred
  • Proven track record in late-stage private equity deals within energy, industrials, business services or other capital-intensive industries
  • Demonstrated investment judgement
  • Strong analytical skillset (financial analysis, financial modeling, valuation and structuring)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intellectually curious, with an authentic desire to focus on climate / energy transition investing
  • Maturity and presence to work alongside senior management and external stakeholders
  • Sound commercial judgement
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, demonstrating a mindset of problem-solving, creativity, and flexibility
  • Demonstrated ownership and self-direction, strong project management skills and a team-player approach
  • Undergraduate degree required

It is expected that the annual base salary for this role will be up to $200,000. Base salary is one component of TPG’s competitive total rewards package which typically includes discretionary compensation, comprehensive health benefits, and paid time off. Other incentives may also be available to certain eligible employees.
