Associate

Y Combinator is a startup fund and program for entrepreneurs. Since 2005, YC has invested in over 4,500 companies now worth over $750B combined, including Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, Reddit, Instacart, DoorDash, OpenAI and Coinbase.

We are looking for an Associate to join YC’s investment team. This role is particularly well-suited for a recent college graduate who is considering a career in finance and is interested in technology, startups, finance, and venture investing. We are especially interested in meeting candidates who are academically accomplished and independent thinkers, and there is a strong preference for candidates who have a technical background/ CS degree. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our investing, legal, and finance teams to learn about all aspects of venture capital investing.

YC is headquartered in the Bay Area, with offices in San Francisco and Mountain View.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the investment team in conducting due diligence on portfolio companies including gathering and organizing diligence documents and other relevant information.
• Assist in the preparation of investment memos and recommendations for review by our Investment Committee.
• Build financial models to analyze and project the financial performance of potential investments.
• Assist with the organization and management of various types of financing transactions.
• Manage communications with founders, as appropriate.

In this role, you will:

• Learn all aspects of venture investing from one of the most prolific investment funds in the world.
• Work alongside experienced members of all of our teams, who will provide guidance and mentorship.
• Gain valuable work experience in the fast-paced, innovative environment of Silicon Valley.
• Learn about diverse industries (everything from SaaS to biotech to fintech to hardware and beyond).

Requirements:

• Four-year college degree.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Must be collaborative with the ability to accomplish objectives by working independently.
• Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Location:

YC is headquartered in the Bay Area, with offices in San Francisco and Mountain View. Candidates must live in the SF Bay Area or be willing to relocate.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $130,000 – $180,000 salary annually + bonus (depending on experience).
