NGP Energy Capital Overview

NGP Energy Capital is a venture capital and private equity firm which specializes in investing in start-ups, middle markets, emerging growth, later stage, PIPEs, recapitalization, industry consolidation, and growth capital buyouts.

The firm invests primarily in the energy sector including natural gas and oil production, exploitation, acquisition, and development drilling companies, oilfield services companies, natural gas gathering, energy efficiency, alternative energy, and other energy related businesses.

From time to time, NGP Energy Capital also co-invest in direct oil and gas property interests. They may also invest in food and agriculture, water resources and services, and coastal protection sectors.

The firm tends to invest between $2 million and $500 million in companies that are located in the United States, Canada, Central America, Mexico, and Caribbean.

NGP Energy Capital was established in 1988 by Hersh and David Albin, along with Rainwater and Gamble Baldwin. Their headquarters is located in Irving, Texas with additional offices in Connecticut, New Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

Despite the changes in the interview changes for each candidate, the general nature of the process stays the same for the most part. In fact, you can anticipate the following:

  • Interview rounds: 4-6
  • Initial interviews are supervised by junior professionals, while later rounds are handled by more senior folks
  • Unless it’s on-campus or on-cycle recruiting, expect that the entire process will last for multiple weeks

Notable Transaction: Teal Natural Resources

Teal Natural Resources is an oil and gas company based in Dallas which focuses on acquiring and developing resource play opportunities in Texas.

In May 2016, Teal Natural Resources announced a total capital commitment of $125 million from Pearl Energy Investments and NGP.

Teal uses the fund to develop unconventional resource play opportunities in Texas – firstly focusing on the Eagle Ford Shale.
