Firms can make modifications in their interview process for each candidate. However, when you interview at Riverstone Holdings (or similar firms), you can expect the following:

    • Around 4-6 rounds of interviews
    • Junior investment professionals supervise the initial rounds, while the senior staff handle the later phase of the interview.
    • The whole process can take multiple weeks – unless it’s an on-cycle or on-campus recruiting

Interviews at Riverstone Holdings will be a mixture of a set of questions: fit, behavioral, and technical / investing.

    Why Riverstone Holdings

The most common question you’ll receive during interviews is “Why this firm”.

If you’ve done networking prior to your interviews, this is your chance to mention whoever you’ve met and how they’ve positively influenced your decision to apply at their firm.

Also, I would recommend learning more about the firm. A great way to do this is to listen to interviews with its founders, investors, and employees.

    Riverstone Holdings Case Study

Case studies almost always show up during interviews at firms like Riverstone Holdings. The reason is firms use case studies to evaluate each candidate’s technical and communication skills – both crucial to investor’s success.

Most case studies revolve around investment recommendations and financial modeling. But for junior roles, cold calling case study may also be required.

    Riverstone Holdings Portfolio & Investments

According to Crunchbase, Riverstone Holdings has made 41 investments and five acquisitions. Some of their notable deals include Chargetrip, Signol, and ConnectDER.

    Notable Transaction: Iontra Inc.

Iontra Inc. is an innovator of next-gen battery charging tech based in Colorado.

Their charge control technology improves battery cycle life, safety, and performance, and also removes plating due to fast charging without the need for battery cell or pack redesign.

In July 2023, Iontra announced that they raised an additional $29 million, which made its Series B fundraising to a total of $67 million. The extra funding is led by Riverstone and Volta Energy with participation of Flag Asset Management and others.

The said funding helps Iontra advance their position as a fabless supplier of affordable and small-footprint battery charger microcontroller (MCU) for battery-operated products such as smartphones, wearables, hearables, and power tools.

With the help of Iontra’s MCU, product manufactures can integrate Iontra’s tech faster and easier into their products to fully unlock the potential of their batteries while lowering their Bill-of-Materials costs.
