Notable Transaction: Oona Insurance
In October 2022, Warburg Pincus made a $350 million capital commitment to build a new digital insurance platform for Southeast Asia named “Oona Insurance”.
The firm partnered with experienced insurance executive Abhishek Bhatia who spent more than 10 years in different roles at Prudential before becoming the CEO of FWD Insurance in SG for over four years. He is also the current CEO at Aseana Insurance which is a venture backed entirely by Warburg.
Oona Insurance aims to focus on six core markets: the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Through a buy-and-build strategy, Oona Insurance aspires to become the “pre-eminent digital general insurance platform in SE Asia.”
Warburg Pincus claims that its $350MM investment in Oona is the largest ever funding to seed a digital insurance company in the region.
